I got tired of signups that meant nothing, so I built a page that asks for a price instead. You find out before you build, not after.

So my launch of – the simple, proxy-less AI model cost monitoring software – didn’t generate much response. I said I would build this in public, so here is an update. I am very happy with the app for my own use. It’s everything I want it to be. So even without users, I’m glad I built this just for myself. It’s probably not accurate to say I “launched” this. All I did was publish the app, make a single post on X, LinkedIn and Show HN. That’s not really any sort of distribution effort needed for an app. So I will continue to get the word out regarding Costbase on Reddit, and other places, as well as engaging with X users who have problem with AI cost. (If you guys have ideas, lmk) It’s just a small app, a side project, so I won’t put too much time marketing this before calling it quit. Pre-AI, I’ve always spent so much effort building an app that I don’t have any time left for marketing (I also run an ERP consultancy). Now, building is pretty much automated, so th

I nearly cut my free plan retention out of fear. I measured first, and the change did nothing. Backstory first, because that's the honest order. I pay for OpenAI, Anthropic and Cursor. Every one has its own dashboard, none of them agree with each other, and none agree with the invoice. What I actually wanted was boring: what did this feature cost last month, and which customers are expensive to serve. No provider console answers that, because they bill by organisation and API key, not by my

Got curious what a pointless meeting actually costs me, ended up building wage calculator www.wagescalc.com I was sitting in a meeting that should have been an email and wondered what that hour was literally costing me in wages. Turns out about $29. Then I wanted to know the per-minute number. Then per second. So it's a salary-to-hourly converter. There's a meter at the top that starts counting the second the page loads and shows what you've earned since you opened it. Leave the tab op
