OpenAI Hits the Brakes as Anthropic Pulls Ahead | August 19, 2026 (📍Data From Daily Report) The AI race just produced an uncomfortable plot twist: Anthropic is reportedly generating more quarterly revenue than OpenAI—while OpenAI’s operating losses are expanding faster than its sales. OpenAI’s Q2 revenue reached $6.7 billion, up 18% from $5.7 billion in Q1. But its operating loss widened from $9.3 billion to $12.3 billion. Put bluntly: OpenAI lost approximately $1.84 in operations for every $1 of quarterly revenue. That is not merely an “investment phase.” It is a reminder that extraordinary demand does not automatically create attractive unit economics. Anthropic, meanwhile, reported Q2 revenue of $11.6 billion—more than double its previous level and, for the first time, above OpenAI’s quarterly revenue.
