building in public: a tool to practice real work instead of courses saw so many people finishing courses and collecting certificates like they're collecting pokemon cards. So we built something that closes the gap between "i finished the course" and "i can actually do the work" it's tasklearn.app , you get real industry tasks, you attempt them, you see how far you actually get. no videos, no tutorials , just the task itself and ai feedback on what you did. learning th

Block distracting websites by solving math or coding puzzles.

TLDR built a Chrome site blocker that lets you into distracting sites only after you do some math or simple coding (JS only right now). Direct link to extension (the site just gives you more context): https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/sphinx-earn-your-di... Philosophically it's a speed bump rather than a hard gate, because you'll eventually tear a gate down but you'll leave a speed bump. I've always eventually removed site blockers, or just had them become a nuisance that I reflexively dismiss before getting to distracting sites. Site blockers don't really reduce the "start navigating to a distracting site" muscle memory, and they eventually just become annoying. Dopamine is a hell of a drug. At the same time, I've been getting frustrated that my intermediate/advanced math skills have atrophied, and becoming more senior in my career (plus AI...) has caused my coding skills to atrophy even further. Realistically I'm not going to force myself to do math or coding exercises aft

Practice interview questions with AI coach feedback on your spoken answers.
u/Low-Development-2571 · Reddit
I am getting laid off, so I built a free AI interview coach that scores how you speak. I need your brutal feedback I've spent 9 years breaking things and have worked as a QA Analyst, QA Engineer, and Software Development Engineer in Test. Just found out I'm being let go. Instead of browsing job boards, I built something I needed for my interviews. I tried many prep tools, and they all check your answers. But almost none look at how you deliver them, the rambling, filler words, or answers th

Hiya! So I've been playing around with having Claude make videos for a bit now even had some success posting the results to TikTok (and setup a whole pipeline so Claude can generate and post autonomously). With the release of Nano Banana 2 Lite, I was curious show fast I could make the generation, so last night I gave it a whirl and got down to around 30s for short-form video. It uses GLM-5.2 fast via Fireworks to generate the scripts and image prompts and, like I said, Nano Banana 2 Lite for the images, gpt-4o-mini-tts for the narration, and ffmpeg to string it all together and add the Ken Burns zoom effect (which still has a shake I haven't been able to get rid of). The video compilation proved to be the blocker once the rest was in place, but I was able to speed that up by putting it on a 64 vCPU EC2. The cost might be the most interesting aspect as the short form videos tend to be about 25 cents. Almost 90% of that is the images, which are 3.336 cents a piece. Of course, running
